Friends and relatives in this vicinity were greatly shocked an grieved when they learned of the death of Mr. Theodore Stuhr, long-time resident of Manning.
Mr. Stuhr passed away as the result of a heart attack at his home in Madison, Wisconsin, at eight o'clock Sunday morning, January 5th, 1941. His death was received with great shock since Mr. Stuhr visited with relatives in Manning and vicinity over Christmas and was apparently in the best of health.
Theodore W. Stuhr was born in Loersdorf, Holstein, Germany, on March 15, 1864, and came to America with his parents in the year 1880 and settled in Philadelphia. On August 5, 1888, he was married to Miss Emma Rothgaard at Maquoketa. They lived in Clinton County for two years and came to Manning in 1890. Four boys were born to this union, all of whom survive: Albert of Lanesboro, Ed of Manning; Jack and Emil of Austin, Minnesota. His wife passed away on March 14, 1938. In January of 1940 he was married to Elizabeth Osbourne, a science instructor in the Madison, Wisconsin schools.
Mr. Stuhr is survived by his wife and the four sons mentioned; seven sisters: Mollie, Mrs. Gus Bohnsack of Dougherty, Iowa; Dora, Mrs. Henry Stoelk, Manning; Minnie, Mrs. Peter Frahm of Mason City; Louise, Mrs. Henry Windish, Mason City; Mrs. Edna Coleman, Mason City; Tillie, Mrs. Herman Bohnsack, Mason City; Eva, Mrs. J.F. Kraus, Carroll; five brothers: Charles of Glidden; Chris of Mason City; Henry of Botna; John of Aumsville, Oregon. One brother, William, died in 1886.
The body was brought to Manning Tuesday morning and funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon at two o'clock in the Ohde Funeral Home, Reverend Alexander Wimberly officiating. Clifford Johnson sang for the rites. Burial was in the Manning cemetery and he was laid to rest by six nephews: Frank Stoelk, Albert Stoelk, Lawren Stoelk, Louie Stuhr, Charles Stuhr, and Arthur Stuhr.
