Teresa Marie, daughter of Rafael and Teresa (Mayer) Sailer, was born October 5, 1916, at home in Audubon County, Iowa. She attended rural schools in the area and St. Augustine School in Halbur where her family moved in 1928. Her mother passed away at this time and she stayed at home to help with the cooking and cleaning. The family moved south of Aspinwall in 1941.
Teresa was united in marriage with William Joseph Wanninger on March 30, 1948 at Sacred Heart Church in Manilla. His wife had died and Teresa became a loving stepmother to his five children. They made their home and farmed east of Gray and then moved to a farm near Halbur. They settled west of Aspinwall where they farmed and raised their four children. Teresa enjoyed baking; raising a large garden; caring for her flowers and reading. She and her husband enjoyed going to dances. Teresa worked at her daughter’s business Country Interiors in Manning starting in 1978. After William passed away in 1984, Teresa moved to Manning. During these years she enjoyed going out to eat with her family and always enjoyed a good piece of pie. Teresa was a member of Sacred Heart Church in Manning and active in the Altar and Rosary Society.
When her health began to fail in the fall of 2006, Teresa became a resident of the Manning Plaza Nursing Home. She died there on Monday, July 5, 2010, at the age of 93 years and 9 months of age.
She is preceded in death by her parents; husband William Wanninger; three brothers Ralph Sailer, Frank Sailer and his wife Ann, and Martin Sailer; sister Ann Sailer; step-daughter Marilyn Zubrod; step granddaughter Shelia Schoeppner; a still-born step-child and step son-in-law Roy Lidbeck.
