Steven Patrick, son of Wilbur Junior and Patricia (Wood) Mock, was born August 6, 1943, in Manning, Iowa. He grew up in Manning and graduated from Manning High School in 1961. Steven completed his Bachelor of Science at Trinity University, San Antonio, Texas in 1966. He then came back to the University of Iowa, Iowa City, where he earned his Juris Doctorate in 1969.
Steven moved to Houston, Texas where he was a self-employed attorney and raised four children. He was a member of the American Bar Association, Texas Bar Association, Harris County Bar Association and Houston Bar Association. In addition Steven was a proud member of the National Rifle Association and Theta Tau Upsilon Fraternity. He was a lifelong learner, studying the news, history and politics voraciously. In his spare time he enjoyed being with his many friends in Texas and keeping track of his lifelong friends in Iowa. He flew the Iowa flag, told many stories of his memories of the Manning Creamery Company and was a lifelong, loyal Iowa Hawkeye fan. Steven was very intelligent, acting as a sounding board for many and giving excellent advice to many. His sense of humor and witty comments kept his friends and family on their toes. His family and friends will always remember his quiet, yet strong presence with a constant smile on his face, and a twinkle in his eye. Above all, Steven fostered unique relationships with each of his four children filled with communication, respect, and trust.
In 2007 Steven was united in marriage with Lin. They made their home in Houston where he continued to practice law.
Steven died suddenly and unexpectedly on December 25, 2014, at his home in Houston at the age of 71 years, 4 months and 19 days. Preceding him in death are his parents Wilbur Junior Mock and Patricia (Wood) Mock Bruck; step-father Leo Bruck; and grandmother, Bonita (Kuhl) Hagedorn, with whom he had a very special relationship.
He is survived by his wife Lin Mock of Houston; children Justin Mock and wife Kelly of Cypress, Texas; Jamie Mock of Houston, Texas; Kasey Mock and husband Zubin Segal of Austin, Texas, and Karsten Mock and fiancé Kathryn Wilson of Atlanta, Georgia; granddaughters Kylie Mock and Jordyn Mock of Cypress, Texas, and Gabriel Herring of Houston and Gavin Meador of Houston; other relatives and friends.
A Memorial Service will be held in Houston in the near future celebrating the life of their beloved Steve. The family will share pictures and videos of Steve with background music of his classic country music heroes Willie Nelson and Waylon Jennings and Cajun etouffee will be served (two of Steven's favorite things).
A Graveside Service will be held in Manning, Iowa, when the weather warms where his cremated remains will be interred near his family.
