MRS. SOPHIA MARTENS
Funeral services for Mrs. Sophia Bertha Martens, 80, of Denison, were held at 2 p.m. Monday at St. John's Lutheran Church in Buck Grove, with the Rev. John Schauer officiating. A resident of Eventide Home for the Aged, she died August 20, 1971, at Crawford County Memorial Hospital here.

Music at the rites included "Rock of Ages" and "Savior I Follow On," sung by Henry Henningsen. Mrs. Darrell Ketelsen was organist. Pallbearers were David Ewoldt, Eugene Hansen, Marvin Karsten, Paul Gillman, Eugene Johnson, Clark Martens, and Charles Mohns. Burial was in the Manning Cemetery at Manning, under direction of the Huebner Funeral Home of Denison.

Mrs. Martens was born November 2, 1890, in Carroll County, a daughter of Frank and Sophia (Jentzen) Koepke. Her marriage to Harry Martens took place December 22, 1909, and they lived near Manning and Vail until retiring and moving to Buck Grove in 1945. The couple celebrated their golden wedding anniversary in 1959; Mr. Martens died in 1962.

Surviving are seven children, 26 grandchildren, 45 great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandchild; four brothers and two sisters. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by three grandchildren, a sister and two brothers.
