Shirley Spack

Funeral services for Shirley Spack, 77, were held Wednesday, March 2, 2005, at 10:30 a.m. at the Zion Lutheran Church in Manning. Interment was held at the Crawford Heights Memory Gardens in Denison. Visitation was held Tuesday, March 1, from 3 to 8 p.m.

Shirley passed away Sunday at the Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines.

Shirley Ann Spack, born December 16, 1927, was the daughter of Charles and Alma (Schroeder) Meyer. She was born in Carroll, Iowa, and received her education in a rural school near Westside. After completing her education she worked at Cronk's Restaurant in Denison.

On January 6, 1946, Shirley was united in marriage to Clifford G. Spack at Zion Lutheran Church in Denison by Reverend Carl Schmidt. The couple farmed west of Manilla for a couple of years and in 1948, they moved to Aspinwall where they farmed and operated Pat's Place. In the early 1980s, Shirley attended the bar at the Manning VFW. After the death of Clifford, Shirley moved to Manning in 1991.

She was an active member of the Zion Lutheran Church in Manning. She was also a member of the Hospital Auxiliary, VFW Auxiliary and American Legion Auxiliary. Shirley loved spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She kept busy and was very active at crossword puzzles, crafts, crocheting and baking rye bread.

In her leisure time, she enjoyed bowling, listening to Polka Music on KDSN, playing cards and socializing with friends.

Preceding Shirley in death were her parents, her husband, one brother, Marvin Meyer and his wife, Janea "Shorty;" three brothers-in-law, Ed Jochimsen and his wife, Esther; Elmer Spack and his wife, Laverne; Jim Spack; and one nephew, Ben Meyer.

Survivors include one daughter, Carol Lile, and her special friend, Jerry Irlbeck; one son, Rick Spack, all of Aspinwall; five grandchildren: Trudy Rosenbaum and her husband, Aaron; Heather Diersen and her husband, Zane, all of Grimes; Jalen Spack and his wife, Michelle, of Guthrie Center; Michelle Lile; Tony Lile and his wife, Gina, all of Manilla; six great-grandchildren: Dyllan Rosenbaum, Wyatt Rosenbaum, Quenton Spack, Alex Spack, Maryse Diersen and Luke Lile; two brothers: Clayton Meyer and his wife, Edna, and Lyle Meyer and his wife, Joann, all of Denison; one sister-in-law, Arlene Spack of Manning; several nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends.
