DEATH OF SETH SMITH
Seth Smith who resided in Manning for a number of years but who has resided at Ferguson, Iowa, for the past 8 years died at his home at Ferguson March 4, 1804 and was buried on the 5. Uncle Seth as we always called him was one of the pioneers of Carroll County, a good kind hearted man whose word was as good as his bond, was a follower of God and believed in the golden rule. He moved from Marshall County to this county in about 1879 and in the year 1887 moved to Manning, the town then just starting. He was appointed as the first Postmaster and filled the office to the entire satisfaction of everyone. He was born in Ohio on December 19, 1831, and died March 4, 1904, making him 73 years two months and 14 days old. He leaves a wife and two sons, Ellsworth of Winterset, Iowa, and Charles Smith of Coleridge, Nebraska, to mourn his loss.

This community extends the deepest sympathy to the bereaved members of the family in this, their sad sorrow.
