Harold, son of Hermuth and Hilda Sievertsen Schroeder, was born October 26, 1914, near Manilla in Crawford County, Iowa. He attended grade school in Aspinwall and graduated with the Manning High School Class of 1932. Harold then lived on a ranch near Livingston, Montana, before returning to Iowa and working for Crawford County Road Maintenance.

On March 27, 1940, Harold was united in marriage with Bernice Karsten at the Lutheran parsonage in Manning. Two sons were born to this union. Harold and Bernice then began farming northwest of Manning. While farming, Harold was also director for Ewoldt Township Country School for several years. Harold retired in 1982, and in 1987 they moved into Manning.

Harold was baptized and confirmed into the Lutheran faith. He was member of Zion Lutheran Church, serving as Trustee and participating in Lutheran Laymen's League. He enjoyed visiting and playing cards with his grandchildren and friends.

In May, Harold's health began failing rapidly and on July 22, 1998, he died at St. Anthony Regional Hospital in Carroll. He reached the age of 83 years, 8 months and 28 days.

Besides his parents, Harold was preceded in death by a brother Orren and his wife Geraldine, and a sister Elaine Hansen.

Harold is survived by his wife Bernice Schroeder of Manning; two sons: Tom H. Schroeder of Irvine, California, and David Schroeder of Manning; two grandchildren: Tom J. Schroeder of Andros Island, Bahamas, and Tammy Schroeder of Evergreen, Colorado; a brother-in-law Alvan Hansen of Manning; and by nieces, nephews, other relatives, and many friends.
