David William, son of Harold and Bernice Karsten Schroeder, was born December 8, 1950, at Manning, Iowa. Dave was baptized and confirmed at Zion Lutheran Church in Manning, where he continued his membership throughout. his life.
After graduating from Manning High School in 1969 Dave attended the University of Iowa for one year. He then transferred to the University of Arizona in Tucson where he earned his Bachelor of Arts in English Literature. Dave enjoyed writing and had completed a novel. In addition he helped other writers edit their works. He loved to read and remembered what he read. Dave was an excellent swimmer and served as a lifeguard in many places. He enjoyed houseplants and colorful plantings outdoors. After his father retired from farming in the late 1970's, Dave took over running the family farm northwest Manning.
In the early 1990's Dave was diagnosed with congestive heart failure and had suffered two major health episodes in 1998. On Friday, June 25, 1999, he had not been feeling well and had taken himself to the Hospital in Denison where he suffered a stroke and was flown by helicopter ambulance to St. Joseph Hospital in Omaha, NE, where he died later that same night. He was 48 years, 6 months, and 17 days of age.
Dave is preceded in death by his father, Harold Schroeder, on July 22, 1998.
He is survived by his mother Bernice Schroeder of Manning; brother Tom H. Schroeder of Irvine, CA; nephew Tom J. Schroeder of Evergreen, CO; niece Tammy and her husband Clifford Drozda of Corpus Christi, TX; uncle Alvan Hansen of Manning other relatives and many friends.
