Obituary of Mrs. Sara Smith

On May 24th, 1928, occurred the death of Mrs. Sam A. Smith at her home in south Stuart, at the age of 66 years, 2 months, and 7 days, of ailments from which she had been a patient sufferer for two years. All that medical skill and loving hands could do was done but to no avail, and at 7:45 p.m. her spirit winged its way to its Maker, consoled by the rites of the Catholic Church, of which she was a devout and faithful member.

Mary Elizabeth Hurley, daughter of John and Sarah Hurley, was born at Galesburg, Illinois, March 17, 1862, where she resided until February 13, 1889. She was then united in marriage to Sam A. Smith of Manning, Iowa, where they lived until moving to their present home in 1916.

Surviving her are her husband, three daughters, Mrs. E.T. Lydon, of Stuart, Mrs. James Farber of Gray, and Mrs. Ray Nixon of Churdan, and two sons, Sam of Elgin, Nebraska; and Paul of Stuart. Beside her immediate family she leaves to mourn their loss two sisters, Mrs. Guy Jensen of Audubon, Mrs. J.D. O'Connor and one brother, James Hurley of Galesburg, Illinois, also six grandchildren.

Mrs. Smith was endowed with a jovial, sunny disposition and pleasing traits of character, which endeared her to her family and friends, who regret her departure, and who testify to her beautiful character and worth as a mother and friend.

The funeral took place at All Saints Church Saturday morning at 9 o'clock, Rev. Father Toher officiating. Interment was in the Catholic Cemetery.
