THE FAMILY WISHES TO EXPRESS THEIR GRATITUDE FOR YOUR KINDNESS EVIDENCED IN THOUGHT, WORD, AND DEED, AND INVITES YOU TO JOIN THEM FOR LUNCH AND FELLOWSHIP AT THE CHURCH FOLLOWING THE COMMITTAL SERVICE.

Roy Hugo, son of Hugo and Adelaide (Wiese) Schrum, was born March 4, 1931, in Manning, IA. Roy attended school in Manning, graduating with the Manning High School Class of 1949. Following graduation, Roy worked at Brown-McDonalds’s Department Store for about one year before transferring to the same store in Ogallala, NE. He then worked for the ASCS office in Keith County, NE.

While in Nebraska, Roy was called to the ministry and attended the Lutheran seminary in Springfield, IL. While serving as vicar in Marengo, IL, Roy suffered a debilitating brain aneurysm at the age of 28. He consequently returned to Manning, IA to live with his parents and work at various businesses. On April 4, 1979, Roy became a resident of the Manning Plaza Nursing Home.

Roy was a member of Zion Lutheran Church, where he was baptized on May 12, 1940, and confirmed on June 26, 1949. While in Manning Plaza he enjoyed playing cards, watching television, going to the snack bar and assisting the Lutheran minister with services.

For the past year Roy had been in failing health and on Tuesday, July 3, 2001, Roy died suddenly and unexpectedly at Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines after suffering a ruptured aneurysm the previous day. Roy was 70 years, 3 months and 29 days of age.

Besides his parents, Roy was preceded in death by two sisters Delores Schrum and Margaret Thielen, two nieces Mary Ellen Schleis and Sheri Luetje, and a brother-in-law Harry Musfeldt.

He is survived by two sisters Dorothea Musfeldt of Manning and Norma and her husband Wendell Luetje of Westside, a brother-in-law Peter J. Thielen of Carroll, and by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
