OBITUARY
Roy H. Sander was the son of William and Emma (Wegner) Sander, was born near Manning, Iowa, and died at the Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines, Iowa, at the age of 86 years, 2 months, and 10 days.

He attended Manning Schools and graduated with the High School Class of 1922. He was a member of the Presbyterian Church in Manning.

On July 6, 1929, he married Leona K. Ohde at Avoca, Iowa. They lived in Manning and Roy was associated with the Ohde Funeral Home there in 1926. In 1929 he attended the Hohenschun-Carpenter College of Embalming in St. Louis, Missouri. After his graduation in 1930 he returned to Manning as a funeral director at Ohdes.

In 1947 they moved to Audubon, Iowa, where he operated the funeral home and furniture store for Frank McFadden. They became members of the First Presbyterian Church in Audubon. Roy was also a member of the Masonic Lodge in Manning and Audubon and was a past master. In 1953 they purchased the McFadden Funeral Home and operated it until Roy's health caused them to sell to Leo and Donna Kessler in 1964. Roy continued as a funeral director at the funeral home until his retirement in 1982. In December of 1981 he was honored as a 50-year member of the Iowa Funeral Directors Association. His retirement was spent as an avid high school sports fan and rarely missed a football or basketball game in Audubon.

Preceding him in death were his parents; his brother Ray and wife Golda Sander; and his brother Herbert Sander.

Survivors include his wife Leona; his daughter and son-in-law, Donna and Lyle Joens, all of Audubon, IA; his grandson and wife, Keith and Connie Joens of Athens, Greece; his granddaughter, Kathleen Carlton of Chicago, IL; two great grandchildren, Carrie and Christopher Joens of Athens, Greece; his sister-in-law, Erna Sander of Manning, IA; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

The family of Mr. Sander appreciate the many expressions of sympathy and concern. Everyone is invited to meet with them in the Church basement following the committal service. Those who do not go to Manning are invited to have lunch and then visit with the family when they return.

Roy Sander is buried in the Manning City Cemetery.
