LYLE "COOKIE" ROWEDDER

Lyle Robert, son of Henry and Christina Jochimsen Rowedder, was born September 30, 1925, near Manning, IA. He grew up on a farm north of Manning and attended rural school. Following his schooling he worked on the farm until 1946 when the family moved into town.

On October 18, 1949, Lyle was united in marriage with Thelma Henkelman at Vail, IA. Three children were born to this union. Lyle had been working at the Manning Creamery Company since 1947 and continued there until it closed in 1971. He then worked for and was part owner of D & L Refuse, Inc. Even after his retirement in 1991 he continued to be active in the business. He and Thelma bought their home at 107 Sue Street in 1958. Following the death of his wife Thelma in September of 1999 Lyle continued to live in their home.

Lyle was a member of Sacred Heart Parish in Manning and was a member of the Manning Fire Department for 16 years.

Lyle spent the past few months traveling between Iowa, Minnesota and Arizona with his family. He died suddenly and unexpectedly at Manning Regional Healthcare Center Emergency Room on Friday, March 16, 2001, at the age of 75 years, 5 months and 14 days.

Besides his wife, Lyle is preceded in death by his parents; brother Ira Rowedder and wife Julia; sister Elda and husband Charles Stuhr; sister-in-law Verna Rowedder; and brother-in-law Louis Popp.

He is survived by three children: Dennis Rowedder and wife Kathy of Phoenix, AZ; Donald Rowedder and wife Mary of Minneapolis, MN; and Lonny Rowedder of Manning; four grandsons Nathan, Matthew, Jeffrey, and Nicholas Rowedder; one granddaughter Jennifer Rowedder and her mother JoAnn Rowedder; two brothers Ruvilla Rowedder of Carroll, IA; and Glen Rowedder and wife Dorothy of Manning, IA; and one sister Lanora Popp of Manning, IA; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
