He was preceded in death by his parents Fred and Veronica Timmerman and a sister Dorothy Evans. He is survived by his wife Diann, of Omaha, a son, Matthew and a daughter, Cara at home.
The following tribute to Timmerman appeared in the Omaha paper, December 25, 1987, written by Bruce McCoy.
"In the early hours of December 17, a giant of a man named Ronald D. Timmerman, 45, died in a bizzarre highway accident. Lovingly called "T" by
many of his friends, Ron was a real heavyweight - not because of his physical size but because of his big heart.
His life and death transcend the holiday season. He was a real-life Santa Claus, spreading joy and good cheer throughout the year. As the Reverend
Dan Kenney said at the funeral, Ron was "a man for all seasons."
Born and raised in Manning, Iowa, Ron played football, basketball and baseball, graduating in 1960. He came to Omaha and met and married Diann Petersen. They had
two children - Matt, a divisional all-Metro defensive end this fall for state champion Omaha Creighton Prep, and Cara, a ninth-grader this year. Ron loved
watching his kids compete. He also competed hard as a "just try to get by me" catcher for his church league slow-pitch softball team.
He followed the rules of sports, the rules of life and the rules of his religious belief. To Ron, all of them focused on the Golden Rule.
He was especially fond of this time of year. Some called him "Mr. Christmas" because he loved the camaraderie, the family times, the religious significance and the joy of sharing. He was born in this season and he died in this season.
Time out, my friend. You have labored hard and well, and earned your eternal rest."
