Rita Winkelpleck Rita Kay Winkelpleck, 75, of Grundy Center, Iowa, passed away on Tuesday, August 24, 2021, at her home in Grundy Center while under the care of Unity Point Hospice.

A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. Abels Funeral and Cremation Service is assisting the family with arrangements. Memorials may be directed to the family.

Rita was born on May 3, 1946, in Denison, Iowa, to her parents Harold and Verna (Grage) Vehrs. Rita was united in marriage to John Winkelpleck on May 1, 1969, in Bouton, Iowa, they resided in Grundy Center most of their life. Together they welcomed four children into their family. Rita enjoyed camping, playing cards, cooking for her family and was a huge Willie Nelson fan. She had a huge heart and her true joy in life came from spending time with her family especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Rita is survived by her children, James (Melanie) Winkelpleck, Wendy (Jason) Monaghan, Angie (Scott) Darge, and Cory (Stephanie) Winkelpleck; grandchildren, Brandon, Ben, Brooke, Alicia, Cody, Chelsea, Shirley Paige, William, David, and Neva; and 7 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband John Winkelpleck; and sisters Verna Stracke and Jan Miskimins.
