Richard Dale, son of Charles and Anna (Fossel) Wooster was born March 20, 1921, at their farm home in Shelby County near Manning. He attended school at Jefferson No. 7 through 8th grade. Richard continued working on the family farm, always pursuing the latest in conservation methods.
On February 7, 1960, Richard was united in marriage with Vivian Eloise Eddy at Omaha. The couple resided on Richard's family farm in Shelby County, near Manning, until Vivian's death on January 16, 2008, after nearly 48 enjoyable years together. Since they didn't have children of their own, they showered nieces and nephews with attention and gifts, especially at Christmas time.
Richard was a member of Merrills Grove Baptist Church until it was closed. He was a Shelby County Soil and Water Commissioner and a member of the Longbranch Watershed Association, the Shelby County Historical Society, the National Rifle Association and Greenridge. His interests included old tractors, especially Olivers, guns, watches and knives. He liked traveling, fishing, hunting and water skiing. Richard enjoyed using his grist mill at the Greenridge Steam Show each fall where he ground wheat and corn.
Richard took a fall on the ice in December of 2010 and then became a resident of the Manning Plaza in Manning, Iowa. He died there on July 15, 2014, at the age of 93 years, 3 months, and 25 days.
Richard was preceded in death by his parents, wife Vivian, brothers-in-law Clyde Thomson and Iner Kvamme; and great-nephews Tim Annin and James Thomson.
He is survived by his brother Charles and wife Joanne Wooster of rural Manilla; sister Betty Thomson of Manilla; sister in law Lorraine Kvamme, brother and sister in law Dorothy and Ken Sciford; nieces, nephews, many friends and neighbors.
