Father Ralph Reinhart
Mass of the Christian Burial for Father Ralph W. Reinhart was held Monday, July 23, 2001, at 11:00 a.m. at the Sacred Heart Church in Manning. The principal con-celebrant was the Most Reverend Bishop Daniel N. DiNardo. Con-celebrants were classmates Father P. Joseph Nooney and Father Edmond F. Adams, Sacred Heart parish Pastor Father James McAlpin and other Priests of the Sioux City Diocese. Homilist was Father James McAlpin. The Fourth Degree Knights of Columbus formed an honor guard at the church for the funeral Mass. The lector for the Mass was Dr. Virgil Reinhart. Gift bearers were Melvin Reinhart, Lois Boes and Jean Potthoff. Mass servers were Kevin Lampman, Nate Fara and Jacob Ranniger. Graveside services were held at 2:00 p.m. at the Mt. Olivet Cemetery in Carroll with Neil Reinhart, Ralph Reinhart, Dr. Alan Potthoff, Don Reinhart, Tom Reinhart and Dave Reinhart as casket bearers. A rosary was held at 5:00 p.m. Sunday, July 22, with a Christian Wake service at 7:00 p.m.
Father Reinhart was born January 12, 1927, at Carroll, Iowa, the son of Albert M. and Louise (Schultes) Reinhart. He spent his younger years in the Mt. Carmel Community and attended Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Schools and graduated from Carroll High School.
He attended Trinity College in Sioux City and went on to graduate from Loras College in Dubuque. He then attended St. Paul Seminary and graduated in 1952.
He was ordained to the priesthood on June 7, 1952, at the Cathedral of the Epiphany in Sioux City by Bishop Joseph M. Mueller. Father Reinhart has done significant graduate work at Creighton University in Omaha resulting in a permanent professional teaching certificate.
He served as assistant pastor in Sioux City from 1952 to 1959, pastor at Alvord and Doon from 1959 to 1961, pastor at Rock Valley from 1961 to 1968, pastor at Ashton from 1968 to 1973, pastor at Cherokee from 1973 to 1975, pastor at St. Mary Parish in Sac City from 1975 to 1986, and pastor at Sacred Heart in Manning from 1986 to retirement in 1997.
Father Reinhart served on the Diocesan Senate from 1966 to 1968, Deanery Director from 1961 to 1968, and on the Priest's Provident Board in 1978. He was a member of Sacred Heart Parish and enjoyed reading, golf, bowling, playing cards and walking.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and a brother-in-law, Robert Potthoff.
Father Reinhart is survived by his brothers: Dr. Virgil Reinhart and his wife, Marie, of
Walford, Iowa; Melvin Reinhart and his wife, Kathleen, of Granite Falls, Minnesota;
sisters: Lois Boes and her husband, Vernon of Minnetonka, Minnesota; and Jean Potthoff
of Halbur, Iowa; and many nieces and nephews.
