Willis Puck, 88 of Manning died at Manning Regional Healthcare Center on Tuesday, December 5, 2000 of complications from October 11, 2000 cancer surgery at Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines. Services will be at 2:00 PM Friday, December 8, 2000 at Zion Lutheran Church in Manning. The Ohde Funeral Home in Manning is in charge of arrangements. Burial will be at the Manning Cemetery.

Willis Hans Puck, the only son of Albert and Emma Kruse Puck, was born October 19, 1912 at Manning in Carroll County, Iowa. Willis grew up on a farm southeast of Manning and attended Pleasant Prairie Rural School followed by two years in Gray High School. In 1928 the family moved to Manning where Willis graduated from Manning High School in 1930. Willis joined his father in the Farmers Union Association, which included a John Deere farm equipment business begun by Albert Puck in 1926. Willis remained active in the family business throughout his lifetime. In 1971 Willis partnered with his sons, Warren and Ken.

On August 10, 1936 Willis was united in marriage with Lavon Maxine Brimer at Zion Lutheran Church in Manning. Three children were born to this union. Willis and Lavon made their home in Manning.

Willis was baptized as an infant in the home of his uncle Harry Kruse. He was a member of Zion Lutheran Church where he served in church council positions for 35 years and was a member of the church building committee from 1961 to 1963.

For many years, Willis served on the Manning City Council, Manning General Hospital and Manning Plaza Board of trustees. He enjoyed fishing in Canada, traveling, reading, golfing, playing cards and living in Manning. Willis enjoyed going to work. His business was his life for 70 years.

Besides his parents, Willis was preceded in death by his step-mother Amanda Puck.

Willis is survived by his loving wife Lavon; three children: Warren Puck and his wife Sue of Manning; Kenneth Puck and his wife Joelle of Manning; Peggy and her husband Frank Osdoba of Spirit Lake; eight grandchildren: Andrea and her husband Greg Garcia; Nate Puck; Stephen Puck and his wife Jennifer; Andrew, Brandon and Amanda Puck; and Angela and Daniel Osdoba; four great-grandchildren; and by other relatives and friends.
