Mrs. Phyllis Signall Shanahan died peacefully at her home on Saturday, October 8, 2016 at 5:07pm surrounded by her family in Baton Rouge, Louisiana.
She was born January 16, 1919, in Manning, Iowa.
Phyllis "Granny" "Pokey" is survived by her daughter, Katie Shanahan Reiman of St. Gabriel, Louisiana, son-in-law, Robert L. Reiman, and three grandchildren, all of Baton Rouge, Louisiana; Brad Fourrier (Chelsea), Aimee Fourrier Dawes (John David) and Beau Fourrier (Jewel) and six great grandsons Owen, Jack, Porter and Chase Fourrier and Davis and Patrick Dawes.
She is preceded in death by her beloved husband Harold Shanahan of Omaha, Nebraska, her parents Phillip and Katie Signall of Carroll, Iowa, and her brothers and sisters Howard Signall, Eileen Stone, Florence Scharfenkamp, and Marita Shelle.
She held several secretarial jobs in a few different states as she traveled with Harold with his job working for Allied Chemical. They lived in Omaha and then moved to Virginia, then back to Omaha then to Louisiana where she worked for the Water Pollution Control (EPA). After 11 years in Baton Rouge, they moved to Green River, Wyoming, before returning to Omaha, Nebraska, where she retired from the National Park Service. Almost 5 years ago, Granny moved south to be closer to Katie, Bob, her grandkids and great grandkids. Granny was known for her wicked sense of humor, deep faith and love of happy hour, wonderful friends and dancing.
Visitation will be on Tuesday, October 11, 2016, at Rabenhorst Funeral Home (825 Government Street, Baton Rouge, Louisiana 70802) from 5:00 pm until 9:00 pm. We will continue to celebrate her life at her funeral which is scheduled for Saturday, October 15, 2016, in Omaha, Nebraska.
Pallbearers will be Brad Fourrier, Beau Fourrier, John David Dawes, Robert L. Reiman, Phil Stone and Alan Scharfenkamp. Honorary pallbearers will be her 6 great-grandsons, Owen, Jack, Porter, Chase, Davis and Patrick.
