Peter Wilhelm Rites Held Last Friday
Peter Wilhelm was born October 30, 1858, in Bendorf, Holstein, Germany. Spending his younger days in his home community and growing to manhood, he was united in marriage to Miss Wiebke Hardt in the year of 1880, to which union two sons were born, John and Henry. After twelve years of married life in the home country, he came with his family to America and settled down in Arcadia, Iowa, which was in the spring of 1892. Being interested in farming and establishing a home, he rented a farm west of the Three Mile House and started farming in 1893. Since then he resided in the vicinity of Manning and purchased a farm south of Manning, on which he lived until 1911, when he and his wife returned from active farm life and came to Manning, purchasing a fine home in South Manning, where they have resided since.
Mr. Wilhelm was a man of unusual good health and strength, was of a quiet disposition, very industrious, frugal and honest in all his dealings. In the short while active on the farm, he accumulated through wise management and hard labor, sufficient means to provide for himself and his wife in their declining years. He was a good neighbor and friend and a kind husband and father,
About two years ago the deceased suffered a stroke of paralysis from which he never completely recovered, suffering for the two years more or less, but he never complained and carried his hard lot patiently. On Tuesday, July 14, 1931, death released him from his suffering, slumbering away quietly into eternity. He was 72 years 9 months and 15 days old at the time of his death. Those surviving are his bereaved widow, the two sons, John, and Henry, three grandchildren and many other relatives and friends.
The funeral services were held Friday, July 17, 1931, from the home in South Manning. Interment was made in the Manning Cemetery, the Reverend A. Howland officiating. As pallbearers acted: Gustav Schroeder, P.A. Martens, William Bauer, J.W. Asmus, Henry Hagedorn, and Henry Albert.
