Peter Rix, 80, Former Monitor Publisher, Is Dead
Hans Peter Nicholas Rix, 80, was born in Germany November 15, 1870, son of August and Gretchen (Wiese) Rix. On September 18, 1895, he married Wilhelmina Baack.

He was the former owner and publisher of The Manning Monitor. He died at the Manning General Hospital Saturday night, April 14, 1951. Mr. Rix, who had been in fairly good health became ill suddenly Thursday night. He was taken to the hospital Friday noon.

Funeral services will be at p.m. Wednesday at the Ohde Funeral Home. The Rev. Harlan Kruse, pastor of the Presbyterian will officiate. Burial will be in the Manning Cemetery.

Mr. Rix had been active in community life here.

He had served is mayor a number of years. A democrat, he had been postmaster during Woodrow Wilson's administration.

He had been in the newspaper business here 22 years. He bought the Monitor in 1919. In 1929, he took his sons, Arthur and Theodore, into partnership with hint. He retired in 1941. Four years later, the paper was sold to Arnold Sanders, the present owner.

Mr. Rix leaves his widow; four sons, Alfred, Harry, Theodore, and Arthur, all of Manning; nine grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

He is also survived by two brothers and two sisters: Theodore Rix, Springfield, Minnesota; John Rix, Arcadia; Mrs. Helen Sukow, Jackson, and Hermine (Mrs. Otto) Krueger Lamberton, Minnesota.
