Mr. Ploen had been ill the last three years and in a critical condition the past two weeks.
Born July 18, 1877, in Stakendorf, Probstei, Holstein, Germany, he was a son of Joachim and Dorothea Ploen, with whom he came to the United States when he was seven years old. His parents farmed in Carroll County.
On March 18, 1903, Mr. Ploen was married to Lena Moeller of Manning, who died in 1941. On October 23, 1945, he was married to Martha Opperman of Manning, who survives.
Mr. Ploen farmed until 1914 when he moved to Manning. In 1918, he became manager of a cream station here, continuing in this capacity until he retired in 1948.
Surviving with his wife are two sons, Herman and Harry, both of Manning: a sister. Mrs. Fred (Metha) Moeller, Manning: and two brothers, William Ploen, Manning, and Emil Ploen, Culver City, California.
Besides his parents and first wife, he was preceded in death by an infant son; a brother, Henry, and two sisters, Emma Ploen and Mrs. Fred (Caroline) Kienapfel, of Manning.
