Rites Held for Pete Ohrt; Built First Power Plant
Funeral services for Peter Henry "Hannes" Ohrt, 89, former Manning businessman, were conducted Tuesday afternoon at the Ohde Funeral home, with burial in the Manning Cemetery. The Rev. Gordon Zimmerman of Audubon officiated. A quartet of Emma (Mrs. Albert) Dietz, Martha (Mrs. Nick C.) Schrum, Herman Pahde, and Art Rix sung.

Mr. Ohrt died at his home at Pocahontas Point, Milford, Iowa, last Wednesday, August 26, 1953.
Burial will be in the Manning Cemetery.

He was born in Germany March 22, 1864, son of Claus and Antje (Thomson) Ohrt, where he was an electrical engineer, and came to this country with his parents when he was 15. After living three years at Clinton, the family moved to a farm south of Arcadia.

Mr. Ohrt and a brother built and operated the first electric light plant in Manning. He built the first garage in Manning and was the first Ford dealer here. He later sold the building to the Fred D. Ross & Company.

He married Fredericka Schroeder November 1, 1900. The couple had no children.

Two sisters and three brothers survive.
