Mr. Martens received his education in the Manning Public Schools and then entered the employ of the Manning Mercantile Company for four years. Thirty years ago, Mr. Martens went to Kansas City, where he took a course in auctioneering. Upon his return to Manning, he added real estate to his enterprises. He was widely known throughout this area in the capacity of hog buyer, sales barn operator, auctioneer and real estate agent. He was engaged in business here for 45 years and retired this spring, due to ill health.
Mr. Martens was a life-long member of Ak-Sar-Ben; he belonged to the Omaha Stock Yards 400 and the Ad-Sell League of Omaha.
