A funeral was held here today for Pearl West, 88, a Carroll native who died Friday, February 13, 1987, at a Sioux City hospital after a brief illness.
The Rev. Francis Staber conducted services at St. Michael's Catholic Church. Burial was at the parish cemetery under the direction of Dickison-Michaelson Funeral Home of Kingsley.
She was born June 12, 1898, at Carroll, the daughter of Fredrick and Margaret (Ales) Franzwa. She grew up in the Carroll area and married L.B. "Jack" West on November 10, 1917, at Manning. They lived in Manning nearly 20 years and then moved to Kingsley in 1938 where Mr. West worked for Iowa Public Service.
Mrs. West was a housewife and was active in the St. Michael's Missionary Society. She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary while she lived in Manning.
She is survived by two sons, Merle of Le Mars and Jack of East Moline, Illinois; three daughters, Mrs. LaMorne Schurtz of Galesburg, Illinois, Mrs. Verlyn (Phyllis) Schmidt of Moville, and Mrs. Robert (Carol Jean) Park of Scranton; 23 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, seven brothers, six sisters and two great-grandchildren.
