Services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Ohde Funeral Home here, with burial in the Manning Cemetery. Officiating will be Annabel Frederksen, first reader, Christian Science Society of Denison. Mrs. Beverly Mitchell will be organist and Clifford M. Johnson, vocal soloist. An Eastern Star memorial service will be held Friday evening at Ohde Funeral Home, where friends may start calling Friday at 1 p.m.
Mr. Stirn had lived in Manning since 1968 and at the Manning Plaza since September 1971. He was born October 12, 1888, in Chicago, Illinois, a son of Nicholas and Margaret (Paltz) Stirn. He attended Chicago public schools and graduated from Chicago Business College. He was the founder of Reliable Paste and Chemical Company of Chicago and at the time of his death was chairman of the company's board. He retired in 1967.
In 1917, Mr. Stirn was married to Clara Gierhahn, and they were the parents of a daughter, Hariot Louise. Following the death of his wife he married Alva Hockett at Chicago, February 16, 1934.
Surviving are his wife and daughter, both of Manning; a son, Oscar "Nick" Nicholas Stirn, of Naperville, Illinois; and two granddaughters, Susan and Sarah Stirn.
In addition to his first wife, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Louis and Henry.
Mr. Stirn was a member of the Christian Science Society at Denison, the Illinois Commercial Men's Association, Chicago Prairie Club, and Woodland Park Masonic Lodge in Chicago. He was a past patron of South Shore chapter, Order of the Eastern Star in Chicago, and in Manning belonged to Salona chapter No, 231, O.E.S. He was listed in "Who's Who in the Midwest" in 1958.
