Orville Thiedeman was born November 11, 1915, the son of Julius and Anna (Kruse) Thiedeman. He died at the Crawford County Memorial Hospital in Denison, Iowa, Friday, August 20, 1999, at the age of eighty-three.
Orville was born in Hayes Township, Westside, Iowa. After completing his education, he started farming at the age of fourteen. His father died in 1934, and Orville took over the farming operation.
On August 21, 1940, Orville was united in marriage to Verna Meyer from Westside. The couple was married in Rockport, Missouri, and made their home on a farm in Hayes Township. Orville remained on the farm until moving to Eventide Nursing Home in November of 1998.
Orville was a trustee of Hayes Township for fifty years and treasurer of the Hayes Cemetery and was involved with soil conservation, being one of the first in the region to start conservation practices.
Orville was a caring father and grandfather. In addition to farming being his career and livelihood, he enjoyed it as a leisure activity. In his younger years, he enjoyed riding motorcycles and was a member of the Schuetzen Verein of Hayes Township.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Gilbert and Harold, and his wife, Verna. Survivors include his son, Larry, and his wife, Jane, of Fayette, Missouri; and daughter, Joyce Neumann, and her husband, Kenneth, of Westside, Iowa; two grandchildren, Tamara Thiedeman of Kansas City, Missouri and Megan Thiedeman of Colorado Springs, Colorado; and one sister, Velma Meehan, of Westside, Iowa.
