Olivia Marie, daughter of Lars and Madsine (Christiansen) Christensen, was born June 28, 1905, in Aalborg, Denmark. When Olivia was ten years old her family moved to the United States and settled near Fiscus where she attended country school. Following her schooling, Olivia worked as a housekeeper for neighbors and friends.
On February 7, 1923, Olivia was united in marriage with Carl Petersen in Audubon, Iowa. Four children were born to this union. Olivia and Carl farmed near Audubon until moving to Manning in 1933. In 1955 they moved to Storm Lake where Olivia worked as a school cook. Olivia and Carl retired in 1966 and in 1967 they moved to Lake View. Shortly after Carl’s death, Olivia moved back to Manning in 1973. She remained on her own until June of 1999 when she became a resident of the Manning Plaza Nursing Home.
Olivia was a member of the Manning United Methodist Church, participating with the United Methodist Women. She enjoyed volunteering at Congregate Meals, attending the "Pastime Club," crocheting, playing cards, dancing, traveling, and visiting with family and friends.
On Tuesday, September 12, 2000, Olivia died at Manning Regional Healthcare Center in Manning following a brief illness. She was 95 years, 2 months and 15 days of age.
Besides her parents and husband, Olivia was preceded in death by two sons Ernest Petersen and Donald Petersen; two grandsons; three brothers and four sisters.
She is survived by a daughter Elaine and her husband Harold Reinke of Manning; a son Carl Petersen Jr. and his wife Mary of Storm Lake; 12 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; 4 great-great-grandchildren; and by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
