Funeral services for Ola C. Ress were held Wednesday, August 14, 1991, at 10:30 a.m. at the Zion Lutheran Church in Manning, Iowa. Pastor Robert Riggert officiated the service with Jenni Riggert as organist. Interment was held in Manning City Cemetery with grandchildren: Benjamin Ress, Alan Ress, Donavon Ress, Kristine Scofield, Gaile Jean Harmes, Duane Harmes, Diane Harmes, Carla Robertson, Larry Ehlers, and Paul Ehlers as casketbearers. Ohde Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
Ola, daughter of Benjamin and Ola Kate (William) Meisel, was born January 19, 1909, at Manning, Iowa.
On December 7, 1927, Ola was united in marriage with Hugo Ress. Six children were born to this union: Ramona, who died in infancy; Lola; Hugo Jr., who was killed in battle during the Korean Conflict, the first Carroll County soldier to lose his life in that war; Benjamin; Zita; and Vincent.
Ola was a life-long resident of Manning. With her husband she owned and operated the Manning Cafe and later the "H and O Cafe." She cooked many years for the hot lunch program at the Manning Schools, and for congregate meals.
Ola was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Manning, past member of Zion Evening Circle, member of the American Legion and VFW Auxiliaries and was a Gold Star Mother.
Ola died at St. Anthony Hospital in Carroll, Iowa early Saturday morning, August 10, 1991, at the age of 82 years, 6 months, and 21 days.
Besides her daughter and son, Ola was preceded in death by her parents; by two sisters, Myrtle East and Lillian Watts; by three brothers, LeRoy, John, and Clyde "Dutch" Meisel.
Survivors include Ola's husband, Hugo, of Manning; the following sons and daughters: Lola and her husband, Vernon Ehlers, of Arcadia; Benjamin and his wife, Judith, of Adel; Zita and her husband, Galen Harmes, of Amber; and Vincent and his wife, Alice, of Albany, Oregon; also 12 grandchildren; step-grandchildren; and great-grandchildren.
