Norma Lillian, daughter of Orval and Lillian (Macumber) Maloy, was born October 23, 1924, on the family farm,
north of Manilla, in Crawford County, Iowa. She attended Nishnabotna No. 1
Country School and then finished her schooling in Manilla graduating with the
Class of 1943. After attending Normal Training, Norma taught country school for
one year. She then attended Iowa Beauty School in Des Moines and worked for one
year in Denison. The next year Norma opened her own beauty shop in Manning.
On June 4, 1948, Norma was united in marriage with Milford Wiese at Manning, Iowa. Their ceremony took place at a very special flower show held at the Fireman's Hall. They made their home in Manning and three children were born to this union. Throughout her life Norma loved to bake buns, breads, and cinnamon rolls for her grandchildren and friends. She also enjoyed gardening, especially her roses. Norma retired in 1988 after operating her own beauty shop for 41 years. After she retired she volunteered at the Manning Information and Development Office and was very instrumental in locating alumni for the Manning Alumni Association during its formative years.
Norma was a member of the United Methodist Church, the United Methodist Church Women, and Ruth Circle. She was also a member of Garden Club.
In May of 1994 Norma was diagnosed with cancer. She fought her cancer for five years and died on Tuesday, April 6, 1999, at Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines, Iowa, at the age of 74 years, 5 months, and 14 days.
She is preceded in death by her parents; a sister-in-law Marcella Johnson; three brothers-in-law: Eddie Johnson, Dewey Wiese, and Merlin Holdsworth.
