NORINE MCCONNELL

Funeral services for Norine McConnell were held Monday, January 7, 1991, at 2:00 p.m. at Ohde Funeral Home, Manning, Iowa. Reverend Anita Johnson of United Methodist Church, Manilla, Iowa officiated the service with Joann Karsten as organist and Judy Joens, vocalist. Interment was in Manning City Cemetery, Manning, with Paul Knudsen, David Swank, Clint Jessen, Larry Bloyer, Bruce Boers, Jeff Swank, Tony Chambers, and Brad Boers as casketbearers.

Norine, daughter of Eli Liston and Bessie Mae (Spickler) Wycoff, was born March 14, 1909, near Botna in Jefferson Township, Shelby County, Iowa. She attended rural schools near her home. September 18, 1929, Norine was united in marriage with Earl G. Swank at Botna. They lived in the Manning and Gray area before moving to Newton where her husband passed away in 1955. After his death Norine returned to the Manning area where she worked at the A&G Grocery Store for several years. She then moved to Omaha where she worked in an orphanage. After a couple of years in Omaha she returned to Manning and worked at the Plaza. She was united in marriage with Milford McConnell on December 11, 1973, and they lived in Manning.

Norine had been in failing health for the past six months and died at the Manning General Hospital, Manning, Iowa Friday, January 4, 1991, at the age of 81 years, 9 months, and 21 days.

Besides her first husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; by a grandson, Steven Knudsen; and by the following brothers and sisters: Gordon Wycoff, Gladys Ramsey, Virginia McConnell and a twin brother and sister in infancy.

Norine is survived by her husband, Milford, of Manning; her children: Virginia and her husband Charles Knudsen, of Exira; Verna and her husband, Bud Boers, of Papillion, Nebraska; David Swank and his wife, Ginette, of Tucson, Arizona; and Betty and her husband, Dwight Jessen, of Exira; two step-children: Dick McConnell and his wife, Jan, of Early and Ronnie McConnell and his wife, JoAnn, of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma; the following grandchildren: Paul Knudsen, of Exira; Brad Boers, of Kansas City, Missouri; Bruce Boers, of Omaha; Brain Boers, of Phoenix, Arizona; David Swank and his wife, Tami, of Atlantic; Jeff Swank and his wife, Carla, of Grimes; Janine and her husband, Jon Kortz, of Tucson, Arizona; Brenda and her husband, Tony Chambers, of Des Moines; Darcy Wegner, of Omaha; Clint Jessen, of Exira; and Robby Jessen, of Exira; five step-grandchildren: Rodney McConnell, of Saudi Arabia; Cory McConnell and his wife, Alice, of Maryland; Julie Witzke, of Schaller; Debbie McConnell, of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma; and Bryan McConnell, of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma; 13 great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Norine was a member of the United Methodist Church in Manning.
