ORLO A. NISSEN

Orlo Alfred, son of Alfred Johannes and Jessie Blanche (Stribe) Nissen, was born March 25, 1922, in Crawford County, Iowa. He attended country school near his home. When he was 10 years old, the family moved to a farm north of Manning. He completed his education in the Manning Schools, graduating with the class of 1942. As a youngster he was baptized and confirmed at Zion Lutheran Church in Manning.

Orlo was united in marriage with Delores Dammann on June 8, 1952. One daughter was born to this union. After they separated, Orlo continued to live and work on the family farm north of Manning. Orlo enjoyed his dogs and going to the Denison Sale Barn on Saturday afternoons. He spent many years in Denison with his special friend Dorothy Glau. After her death in 1988, he returned to live on the farm until entering Manning Regional Healthcare Center in February of 2002. He died there on Sunday, February 17, 2002, at the age of 79 years, 10 months and 23 days.

Preceding Orlo in death are his parents; brother Melvin Nissen; sister Norma Weems and her husband Eldis 'Bud' Weems; nephew Douglas Weems and special friend Dorothy Glau.

He is survived by his daughter Debra and husband David Lense of Macedon, NY; three grandchildren Nick, Sara, and Britton Lense of Macedon, NY; sister-in-law Edna Nissen of Manning; nephew Robert Nissen and wife Linnet of Manning who cared for Orlo for many years; other nieces and nephews: Darrell Weems and wife Della of Adel; Myra and husband Jim Luetje of Westside; Nancy Drake of Omaha, NE; Connie and husband Gordon Scott of Marietta, GA; Curtis Weems of Manning; Gloria and husband Marc Thorson of Akron; Judy and husband Murray Hines of Mesa, AZ; Randy Nissen of Manning; and Joan and husband Gary Carr of Slater; other relatives and friends.
