NELLIE HANSON OLSEN

Nellie Hanson Olsen, 91, of Manning, died Saturday, October 20, 1984, at the Manning Plaza Nursing Home.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Monday, October 22, at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Irwin with the pastor, the Rev. Timothy Zingale, officiating. Burial was in Danway Cemetery in Polk Township, Shelby County. Serving as casketbearers were Larry Clement, Edwin Benson, Keith Benson, William Reed, Eddie Stolz, and Tony Bornholdt. A memorial prayer service was conducted at 7:30 p.m. Sunday at the Ohde Funeral Home in Manning.

Mrs. Olsen is survived by five daughters: Mrs. Julius (Bernice) Wareberg and Mrs. Eleanor Benson, both of Irwin; Mrs. Adeline Stolz and Mrs. Maxine Browning, both of Cheyenne, Wyoming; and Mrs. Donald (Gilma) Bornholdt, Lake Nebagamon, Wisconsin; a son LaVerne Olsen, Manning; 20 grandchildren, 32 great-grandchildren and a great-great-grandchild.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and two grandsons, Steve Olsen and Bret Havick.

Mrs. Olsen was born May 26, 1893, near Kirkman, Iowa, a daughter of Emmanuel and Karen (Johnson) Hanson. She attended rural schools and Irwin High School and took normal training at Woodbine. Later she taught school for a few years before her marriage.

On January 19, 1912, she was married to Adolph Olsen at Irwin. They farmed in the Irwin and Kirkman area before retiring in 1944 and moving into Irwin. He died in 1966. In 1982, she moved to the Manning Plaza nursing home She was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church at Irwin and had been a member and past president if the ALCW.
