Funeral services for Nellie J. McNutt were held Friday, October 5, 2001 at 10:30 a.m. at the United Methodist Church in Manning. Reverend Larry McAlpine officiated the service with JoAnn Karsten as organist/pianist. Interment was held in Manning Cemetery, Manning, Iowa, with John McNutt, Sarah McNutt, Stephen McNutt, Valerie McNutt, Laura McNutt and Rachel Saylor as casket bearers.

Nellie Jane, daughter of Theodore and Emma (Somerfeldt) Farrell, was born April 9, 1921, in Manning, Iowa. She attended Manning schools and graduated from Manning High School in 1939.

On January 31, 1941, Nellie was united in marriage with Dalton W. McNutt in Maryville, Missouri. Five children were born to this union.

Nellie was a life-long resident of Manning. She enjoyed her role as wife, mother, grandmother and homemaker. Her interests included writing poetry, reading, crossword and jigsaw puzzles, as well as Scrabble and other board games. Nellie was a member of the United Methodist Church and United Methodist Women.

On Tuesday, October 2, 2001, Nellie died suddenly and unexpectedly at Manning Regional Healthcare Center at the age of 80 years, 5 months and 23 days.

Nellie is preceded in death by her parents; son, Dale McNutt; two brothers Leonard Farrell and Warren Farrell; and by three sisters Delpha Robinson, Bess Olbertz and Ruth Fischer.

Nellie is survived by her husband of 60 years, Dalton McNutt of Manning, Iowa; two sons Gary McNutt and his wife Sharon of Silver City, Iowa, Mark McNutt and his wife Pamala of Denison, Iowa; two daughters JoAnn McNutt of Ankeny, Iowa; and Mary Saylor of Clive, Iowa; six grandchildren: John McNutt, Sarah McNutt, Stephen McNutt, Valerie McNutt, Laura McNutt and Rachel Saylor; two great-grandchildren Joshua and Andrew McNutt; two sisters-in-law Mary Farrell of Cumming, Iowa, and Jean Alt of Cloverdale, Oregon; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.


Nellie McNutt is buried in the Manning City Cemetery.
