Myrtle passed away in Marshall, Minnesota, on February 8, 2006, at the age of 88 years, 5 months, and 17 days. Born August 22, 1917, in Manning, Iowa, Myrtle was the seventh of eight children of Ferdinand and Mary M. (Lakeman) Schoening.
She attended Emmet Consolidated School and graduated from Superior (Iowa) Consolidated High School in 1934.
On September 4, 1938, Myrtle married William A. Ridley at the Methodist parsonage in Estherville. They remained married, living in Estherville until William's death in 1977. Myrtle continued to live in Estherville until 2002, when she moved to Marshall, Minnesota, to be closer to family. Myrtle loved nature, traveling, camping, and sewing for many of her grandchildren. She also loved music of all kinds, but especially big band music, and going dancing with friends whenever possible. In addition to being a homemaker, she also worked part-time jobs in Estherville as a waitress, shoe salesperson and supermarket checker.
She was a member of the United Methodist Church, V.F.W. Ladies Auxiliary and Ladies Auxiliary of the United Transportation Union.
The couple had four children: Ann (Butterfield) of Vienna, Virginia; Robert of Marshall, Minnesota, Lynn of Lanexa, Virginia, and Neil (deceased), as well as nine grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
