Ella & George Moore
Died - April 10, 1882, of spinal meningitis, Ella E. Moore, and April 15, 1882, George E. Moore, children of Mr. Moore, living between Manning and Irwin.
The hands like fallen rose leaves
We crossed upon their breasts,
And the fingers once busy
We folded into rest.
The eyes like faded blue bells
We closed with jealous care,
And smoothed with gentle touches
The sunny rings of hair.
We placed the spotless pink
Among their burnished gold,
And kissed the sunken features
Grown marble fair and cold.
The mother bent in anguish
Above her darlings dead,
And dropped her tears like rain drops
Upon the sleeping heads.
Among the springing daisies
We laid them both to sleep,
Where the buttercups and violets
Their gentle vigils keep.
Where the sunshine loves to linger -
Where the wild bird builds its nest -
Amid the birds and roses,
Their darlings are at rest.
