Funeral services for Milford McConnell were held Monday, October 4, 1999 at 10:30 a.m. at Ohde Funeral Home in Manning, Iowa. Reverend Larry McAlpine officiated the service with Helen Ohde as vocalist and Connie Siepker as organist. Interment was held at the Manning Cemetery, Manning, Iowa with Rodney McConnell, Corey McConnell, Larry Bloyer, David Bloyer, Jeff Witzke, and Jus Witzke as casket bearers.
Milford Wayne, son of Marion and Viola (Corson) McConnell, was born June 21, 1911, in rural Shelby County, Iowa. He attended country school in Shelby County through the eighth grade. He quit school early in the ninth grade because he was needed to work on the farm.
On July 3, 1933, Milford was united in marriage with Virginia Elizabeth Wycoff in Manilla. Two sons were born to this union. Milford and Virginia made their home in Botna where Milford operated a trucking business in Botna for 13 years. In 1948, the family moved onto the Al Kuhl farm where they lived for 21 years. Virginia died August 5, 1961.
On August 8, 1962, Milford was united in marriage with Leola Ferne (Spear) Gray. They made their home on the farm near Botna and moved into Manning around 1971. Milford then started working for Puck Implement. Leola died April 3, 1973.
On September 12, 1973, Milford was united in marriage with Norine Wycoff Swank. Milford and Norine made their home in Manning. Norine died January 4, 1991.
Milford was a member of the United Methodist Church in Manning. In his spare time, he mowed yards and removed snow. He enjoyed woodworking and the Chicago Cubs.
On June 21, 1997, Milford entered Blackhawk Lifecare Center in Lake View, where he died Friday, October 1, 1999, reaching the age of 88 years, 3 months, and 10 days.
Besides his parents and three wives, Milford was preceded in death by a granddaughter Kristin, a sister Reva in infancy, and three brothers: Arvin in Infancy, Gerald, and Elvin.
He is survived by two sons: Dick McConnell and his wife Jan of Early; Ron McConnell and his wife Joanne of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma; five grandchildren: Rodney McConnell and his wife Linda of Memphis Tennessee; Corey McConnell and his wife Alice of Early; Julie and her husband Larry Bloyer of Schaller; Debby McConnell of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma; Brian McConnell and his wife Melanie of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma; 15 great grandchildren; one brother Virgil McConnell of California; a sister-in-law Shirley McConnell of Fayette, Arkansas; and by several nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
