Mildred Josephine, daughter of Herman and Katherine (Kraus) Venteicher, was born March 19, 1927, on the farm near Willey, Iowa. She attended school in Willey through the eighth grade.
On September 16, 1947, Millie was united in marriage with Glenn August Rohe at St. Mary's Church in Willey. Eight sons were born to this union. Millie was a homemaker on their farm in Ewoldt Township, Carroll County, near Manning. Her husband died July 1, 1967, and Millie did a wonderful job of raising her boys on her own. They moved to an acreage north of Manning and in the late 1970s moved into town. She worked at L.R. Nelson Manufacturing and later in the Manning Regional Healthcare Center Dietary Department. She retired in 1990. There was additional tragedy in Millie's life with the death of a teenage son in an automobile accident and the death of another son in an accident while working overseas in North Yemen.
Millie was a member of Sacred Heart Parish in Manning. She enjoyed sewing, baking, crocheting and, above all, her grandchildren.
Mildred was recovering well from recent hip surgery and enjoying life when she died suddenly and unexpectedly early March 1, 2005, at her home in Manning. She was 77 years, 11 months and 10 days of age.
