One of the saddest accidents that happened in this part of the country for some time occurred last Saturday night when Mike Valinsky; a section man of Aspinwall, met his death on the C. M. & St. P. track about a mile west of town. Exactly how the accident happened will never be known as several men came to town on a hand car and after a time some of the party wanted to go home and others did not, hence some of them took the car and left and the rest walked some hours later. On nearing the top of the hill west of town Valinsky, who was considerably under the influence of liquor became very laggy and friends with him including his half-brother got him laid down behind a pile of ties and left him fast asleep thinking after he slept awhile he would get up and come on home to Aspinwall. A freight train was due between 3 and 4 o'clock and it is supposed that this train approaching him woke him up and he got up bewildered and started down the track when he was struck by the train. Just how he was struck or when he was first struck no one knows. His legs were cut in two and one leg was found several rods from the rest of his body. He was found by the depot agent of Aspinwall who was walking from Manning to Aspinwall early Sunday morning who notified Manning and the section men from here brought in the body. The remains were taken charge of by Henry Mueller the undertaker who prepared the body for shipment to a medical school as he had no money and his half-brother had no money to pay for the burial.
