REVEREND ANDREW HOFFMANN OHDE FUNERAL HOME, MANNING, IOWA
Michael Walter, son of Gene and Leona (Meislahn) Rohe, was born September 9, 1954, in Carroll, Iowa. He grew 143 on a farm east of Manning and attended school in Manning, where he graduated in 1972. Mike then attended the Nebraska School of Commerce in Omaha and farmed with his family.
On June 19, 1982, Mike was united in marriage with Mary Margaret Dotzler at St. Peter's Catholic Church at Defiance. Four children were born to this union. Mike and Mary have always farmed and have lived on the family farm since 1993.
Mike was a member of Sacred Heart Church in Manning. He has been very involved with the Manning-Manilla Knights of Columbus. Mike enjoyed attending not only his children's activities, but was a terrific fan for many activities. He enjoyed the area sports rivalry, especially when his nieces and nephews competed with Manning. After losing his mobility, Mike took to watching cattle auctions on television. Anyone who knew Mike will remember his ornery and fun teasing ways to lighten any situation.
On Thursday, September 28, 2006, Mike died at Manning Regional Healthcare Center in Manning, Iowa, following a courageous, nine-year battle with cancer. He was 52 years and 19 days of age. In a final act of kindness, Mike donated his corneas so that someone else may see.
Mike was preceded in death by a brother Merlin Rohe; his grandparents and his father- and mother-in-law A.J. "Hooky" and Bernice Dotzler.
Mike is survived by his wife Mary Rohe of Manning; four children: Andrew and Kathryn Rohe of Ames and Kevin and Marcus Rohe of Manning; parents Gene and Leona Rohe of Manning; five siblings: Mary Lou and husband Steve Wieland of Westside; Doris and husband Charles Erlbacher of Dow City; Diane and husband Kevin Teno of Rembrandt; Ken Rohe of Manning; and Keith Rohe of Templeton; four brothers-in-law: Denny Dotzler and wife Ellen of Omaha, NE; Fred Dotzler and wife Cassandra of Sarasota, CA; Bill Dotzler and wife Annette of Sioux City; Bruce Dotzler and wife Paula of Liberty, MO; sisters-in-law Sandra and husband Jerry Heller and Betty and husband Joe Keane, all of Defiance; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
If you could see me now
Our prayers have all been answered
I finally arrived
The healing that had been delayed
Has now been realized.
No one is in a hurry.
There's no schedule to keep.
We're all enjoying Jesus.
Just sitting at his feet.
If you could see me now...
I'm walking streets of gold.
If you could see me now...
I'm standing tall and whole
If you could see me now...
You'd know I've seen his face.
If you could see me now...
You'd know the pain's erased.
You wouldn't want me
To ever leave this place,
If you could only see me now.
If you could only see me now.
