Merlin Edward, son of Gene and Leona (Meislahn) Rohe, was born April 10, 1957, in Carroll, Iowa. He attended school in Manning and graduated in 1975. He completed EMT training and served as an EMT for over ten years. On February 2, 1980, Merlin was united in marriage with Teresa McKay and two children were born to this union. Merlin worked as a mechanic for his cousin Dave at Rohe 66. He then worked as a feed salesman and at a hog confinement for a time. For five years, Merlin worked in maintenance for the City of Manning. He spent some time working on the oil pipeline in Wyoming before returning home and working at various mechanic jobs. Merlin bought his own business in 2001, establishing Rohe Repair. Merlin was an avid figure eight racer with his brothers for over 30 years. Recently he followed local racing and was a pit crew member for his son. Merlin loved listening and dancing to polka music, and enjoyed deer and pheasant hunting with his dad, son, brothers and nephews. He was very proud of his children and his face lit up with happiness when his grandchildren were around. Merlin loved to talk and had many friends through the years. Health issues forced Merlin into early retirement in 2005. He died suddenly and unexpectedly at home in Manning on August 6, 2006, at the age of 49 years, 3 months and 29 days. Merlin is survived by his children Derrick Rohe and wife Jessica of Audubon; and Dawn Rohe and special friend Boss Jenkins of Manning; grandchildren Kennedy Rohe, Alexis and Austin Fabian, and Kaui Jenkins; parents Gene and Leona Rohe of Manning; six siblings: Mike Rohe and wife Mary; Mary Lou and husband Steve Wieland; Doris and husband Charles Erlbacher; Diane and husband Kevin Teno; Ken Rohe; and Keith Rohe and wife Kristy; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Memory of Me
I'd like the memory of me
to be a happy one.
I'd like to leave an afterglow
of smiles when life is done.
I'd like to leave an echo
Whispering softly down the ways,
Of happy times and laughing times
And bright and sunny days.
I'd like the tears of those who grieve,
To dry before the sun
Of happy memories that I leave
When life is done.
