MELVIN JACOB WOLFE "TOM"
Melvin, son of Jacob Harvey and Margareta Lebeck Fry Wolfe, was born September 9, 1913 near Stuart, in Guthrie County, Iowa. The family moved to Manning when Tom was a youth and he received his education in the Manning Schools. As a young man Tom did farm labor and was later employed at the Manning Creamery Company and Bunz Implement.
On November 21, 1936 Tom was united in marriage with Alva Jahn. She died in January of 1956. On May 18, 1957 Tom was united in marriage with Wilma Gruhn.
During his married life Tom continued employment at Bunz Implement, and then started his own blacksmith shop in June of 1958. He retired in 1977. Tom enjoyed many hobbies, including woodworking and carving, stamp collecting, and fishing. He was also a rock hound which involves cutting and polishing of various minerals found as rocks. He was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Manning and served as a trustee.
Because of failing health Tom moved to the Manning Plaza Nursing Home in 1988. This past week his condition worsened and he was taken to the Manning General Hospital and died there a few hours later, early Monday morning, April 30, 1990 at the age of 76 years, 7 months, and 21 days.
Besides his first wife he was preceded in death by his parents and by a brother, Vernon.
