Mel's family would like to thank you for your kindness and invites you to join them a luncheon and fellowship in the parish hall following the burial.

Melvin Peter, son of Leo and Bertille (Reinert) Thielen was born November 26, 1934, in Carroll, Iowa. He grew up on a farm south of Manning with two brothers, Raymond and Danny, and a sister, Margie. Melvin attended Lincoln No. 2 Country School. After his schooling, he continued working with his father and brothers on the farm, where he enjoyed raising livestock. On March 21, 1957, Melvin enlisted in the Army National Guard for 6 years. After his honorable discharge he continued farming with his family. He enjoyed traveling and had fond memories of trips to South America and Germany. He was a life-long member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Manning.

Melvin was a beloved uncle, a mentor in his family, who loved spending time with his nieces, nephews, and great nieces and nephews.

On Friday, November 17, 2017, Melvin died at the Manning Plaza Nursing Home in Manning, where he had been a resident since 2010. He was 82 years, 11 months, and 22 days of age.

Melvin was preceded in death by his parents, Leo and Bertille Thielen, brother Raymond Thielen and brother-in-law Wendell (Jr.) Feilmeier.

He is survived by his sister, Margie Feilmeier of Carroll, brother, Danny Thielen of Manning, sister-in-law, Vicki Thielen of Manning, nieces, nephews, cousins, and many other relatives and friends.

Strong and stubborn,
They led this family,
Just like their parents showed them how.
With pride, they worked hard for our future,
A baton passed to us now.
Though we may never feel we're ready,
Their shoes are way too big to fill.
These wise farmers planted seeds in us,
A harvest ripe with grace, and will.
To continue what was started,
And bring light to a dark world.
Their lives shine through ours now,
A legacy fulfilled.
