MRS. WALTER POTTHAST DIED AT MILFORD
August 25, 1949, Manning Monitor

Mrs. Walter (May) Potthast passed away at Milford Tuesday and funeral services will be held from Ohde Funeral home here Friday at 2 o'clock. Mrs. Potthast was a former Manning resident and active in Woman's Club work.

The Rev. Harlan Kruse will be in charge of the funeral services when a quartet composed of Clifford Manning Johnson, Ray Pratt, Emma Dietz, and Mae Schrum will sing to the accompaniment of Bonita Hagedorn. Burial will be in the Manning Cemetery.

Mrs. Potthast is survived by her husband, a brother and two sisters.


Last Rites For Mrs. W. Potthast To Be Here Friday

Funeral services will be held Friday morning, August 26, at 9:00 o'clock from the Leyson Funeral Home in Milford, Iowa, for Mrs. Walter H. Potthast with Rev. J.H. Castle of the Union Memorial Church in charge. Services will be held Friday afternoon at 2:00 o'clock at the Ohde Funeral Home at Manning, with burial at Manning. Mrs. Potthast passed away on Tuesday, August 23, 1949, after several days' illness with a heart ailment. She had reached the age of 72 years, 5 months, and 8 days.

May E. Thompson was born on March 15, 1877, at Carroll, Iowa, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. James Thompson. She was united in marriage to Walter H. Potthast of Manning in 1929, and 11 years ago moved to the Milford community where they made their home on an acreage on West Okoboji Lake.

She leaves to mourn her death her husband, Walter Potthast; three step-children, Irene Potthast of Omaha, Mrs. Minnie Peterson of Hancock, and LaVere Potthast of Clarinda. She also leaves a brother Ward Thompson, and a sister, Mrs. Ada Gibson, of Denver, Colorado, and a sister Mrs. Eva Vernon, of Fennville, Michigan.


May Potthast is buried in the Manning City Cemetery.
