Mary Tarpy
Mrs. Mary Tarpy Dead.
Mrs. Mary Tarpy died at her home in Council Bluffs on January 15th, at the age of 70 years.
She is well known in Manning and vicinity, having lived on their farm some 7 miles south of
Manning for many years. She was a good kind woman and a loving mother, was a member
of the Catholic Church nearly all her life. She was born in Ballina, Ireland, in 1832 and moved
with her parents to Pennsylvania when a girl.
She was married to Thomas Tarpy at Port Corbin, Pennsylvania. In 1854 they moved to Clarence, Iowa, and from there to Crawford County about 30 years ago. In 1880 they moved to Shelby County, southwest of Manning, where they resided until two years ago when they retired from farm work and moved to Council Bluffs. Besides a husband she leaves nine children to mourn her loss: Mrs. J.G. Smith and Mrs. William Harrington, of Vail; Mrs. P.P. Maloney and Mrs. Ella Rowley, of Council Bluffs; Mrs. B.C. Hamilton, of Jefferson; Henry and Thomas Tarpy, of Manning and William Tarpy, Council Bluffs.
The remains were taken to the home of her daughter, Mrs. William Harrington, at Vail, Thursday. The funeral took place at 9:30 Friday morning at St. Ann's, church where high mass was celebrated for the deceased.
