Mary Louise Stangl
Mary Louise, daughter of Dan Ratchford and Marie Wanda Moser McGrath, was born April 27, 1925, in Manning, Iowa. She grew up in Manning and graduated from Manning High School in 1943. Following graduation she entered the Cadet Nurse Corps at Jennie Edmundson Memorial Hospital, Councii Bluffs, graduating as a Registered Nurse in 1946.

On October 5, 1948, Mary was united in marriage with Arved John Stangl at Sacred Heart Church in Manning. Six children were born to this union. The family made their home in Manning where Mary worked at the Manning General Hospital for over 20 years.

Mary was a member of Sacred Heart Parish and Sacred Heart Altar Society. She was an avid reader and served as president of the Manning Library Board for 34 years. Since 1965 she was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary.

Mary's health began to fail late in 1999. She had been in the Manning Regional Healthcare Center for nearly a month when she died there on Sunday, April 9, 2000, at the age of 74 years, 11 months, and 13 days.

She was preceded in death by her parents; son John Stangl in 1979; brother and sister-in-law Ralph and Lorraine McGrath; sister and brother-in-law Helen and Ray Pratt; and brother Robert (Bob) McGrath.

She is survived by her husband Arved Stangl of Manning; children: Cathie and her husband Allan Eilderts of Alton; Michael Stangl of Marshalltown; Teresa and her husband Douglas Walker of Toronto, Ontario, Canada; Tom Stangl and his wife Diane of LeMars; and David Stangl of Manning; ten grandchildren: Ashley Eilderts; Colin Bower; Stephanie Stangl; Samantha Stangl;. Eliazbeth Walker; Catherine Walker; William Walker; Alexandra Walker; Lindsay Stangl and Madison Stangl; sister-in-law Janet McGrath of Beaumont, TX; nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.


Mary Stangl is buried in the Manning Catholic Cemetery.
