Mary Souter, 78, of Manning died on Tuesday, September 1, 1987, at Mercy Hospital in Des Moines.
Funeral services will be held Friday, September 4, at 10:30 a.m. at the First Presbyterian Church in Manning. The Rev. Randy Ross will officiate.
Burial will be in the Manning City Cemetery.
Casket bearers will be Ed Reischl, Joe Croghan, Jerome Croghan, Art Kuhn, George Doyel, Les Doyel, and Arlo Hodne.
Mrs. Souter is survived by her daughter, Beverly, and her husband, Fred Bell, of Dallas, Texas; by her son, David Souter and his wife, Carol, of Manning; four grandchildren; one brother, John R. Houston and his wife, Neva, of Elkhart, Indiana.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband in 1986; her step-father, Ray Miller, and a brother, James Houston, who died as a child.
Mrs. Souter was born on December 13, 1908, at Meyersdale, Pennsylvania, the daughter of John R. and Agnes (Thompson) Houston.
When she was nine years old, her family moved to the Akron, Ohio, area where she graduated from high school.
She worked for the Bell Telephone System until her marriage on August 22, 1931, to R. Lyall "Lyle" Souter at Akron, Ohio.
They lived in Akron where her husband worked as a mechanical engineer for B.F. Goodrich Tires.
In November 1946, after her husband's parents retired, she and her husband moved to the family farm southwest of Manning.
Mrs. Souter was a long-time member of the Presbyterian Church and the Fri-County Social Club. She was also a Red Cross volunteer worker at the Manning General Hospital and Plaza.
