Mary Stein Scott

Mary (Stein) Scott, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. William Stein, was born in Germany on August 18, 1871, and died in the Memorial Home, Harlan on September 11, 1952, at the age of 81 years and 23 days.

In 1881, the Stein family came to America and settle in Arcadia, Iowa.

In 1887, Mary married William Scott. To this union nine children were born, Alonzo of Manning, Iowa; Charles of Chicago, Illinois; Anna Hodge of Bakersfield, California; Ted of Chicago, Ada Rossman of Woodstock, Illinois; George of Bakersfield, California; Henry, who passed away in 1917; Lee of Dumas, Texas, and Willia Jahnke of Harlan.

Mr. and Mrs. Scott moved to Oklahoma where they spent 21 years and where Mr. Scott died. Later, the family moved to Manning. Mrs. Scott moved to Chicago, where she lived for 17 years and then moved to Harlan moving to the Memorial Home soon after its opening. On October 8, 1950, she suffered a stroke from which she never fully recovered.

Mrs. Scott was a member of the Methodist Church, having joined in Manning.

She is survived by a brother in addition to her children, 13 grandchildren and other relatives and friends.

Final rites were held at the Memorial Home and burial was at Manning Cemetery. Sons and grandsons served as pallbearers.
