Marie Schwiesow, nee Beckman was born May 22, 1835, at Pommern, Germany, and died December 11, 1914, at Hardwick, Minnesota, aged 79 years 6 months and 24 day.
On April 12, 1857, she was married to Edward Schwiesow. To this union thirteen children were born five however being called to the great Home beyond before her death. The living are John Schwiesow, Aspinwall; Mrs. Fred Wentzel, Manilla; Mrs. C.H. Grimm of near Manning; Mrs. Jurgen Petersen, of Hardwick, Minnesota; William Schwiesow, of Manilla; Charles Schwiesow, of Ipswick, South Dakota; August Schwiesow, of Harlan; and Albert Schwiesow of Denison.
Mr. and Mrs. Frederick (Edward above - the way it was printed in the Monitor article) Schwiesow came to America in 1872 and settled in Wisconsin, where they lived two years. Then they came to Iowa, where they lived for many years. Two years ago Mrs. Schwiesow went to Hardwick, to continue her home with her daughter, Mrs. Petersen, with whom she had lived for the past twenty-three years, her husband having died many years ago.
She leaves to mourn her death, eight children, fifty-two grandchildren, 35 great-grandchildren, two sisters, of Imlay City, Michigan, two sisters and one brother, at Rochester, New York.
The body was shipped from Hardwick, Minnesota, and the funeral was held from the Lutheran Church Saturday. Many relatives and friends were present to pay their last respects to the departed one. Rev. Johann Ansorge conducted over the body the last rites of the church; after which the body was taken to the Five Mile House Cemetery (Hayes Township Cemetery) to rest until the great Judgment Day. Many friends sorrow with the relatives over their great loss.
