MRS. MARY SCHUMANN
Funeral rites for Mrs. Mary Schumann, 77, were held Monday, December 27 at 11 a.m. in the Ohde Funeral Home with the Rev. Carl G. Sinning of the Manning Presbyterian Church officiating. In failing health for a year, she entered the Colonial Manors Rest Home in Odebolt two weeks ago. She died December 23, 1965, while en route to the Manning General Hospital.

Mrs. Lyle Joens was soloist at the rites and Mrs. Bonita Hagedorn was organist. Burial was in the Manning Cemetery. Pallbearers were grandsons, Dean and Roger Vollstedt, Donald and Roland Sander, Kenneth Adams, and Gary Schumann.

A daughter of Otto and Sophia (Schmahl) Passick, she was born April 27, 1888, in Clinton. She attended school there and as a young girl came to the Five Mile House area near Westside. She lived on farms south of Westside and then south of Manning. On August 31, 1910, she married Charles Schumann at Carroll. They lived in Manning two years, then farmed near Manning until 1929, when they retired and moved to Manning. Mr. Schumann died October 22, 1959.

She also was preceded in death by a daughter, Mrs. Lillian Sander, a son, Arnold; a grandchild, a great-grandchild, and a brother.

She is survived by five children: Mrs. Evelyn Vollstedt, Manning; Eugene Schumann, Westside; Mrs. Bill (Bernice) Adams, Vail; Howard Schumann, Ames; and Charles Schumann, Waverly; 17 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren; three sisters, Mrs. Anna Petersen, Davenport; Mrs. Otto (Minnie) Hagedorn, Manning; Mrs. Henry (Catherine) Arp, Manning; and three brothers, Detlef Passick, Earlham; Henry Passick, Des Moines, and August Passick, Manning.
