Mrs. Schachtner
Mrs. Mary Schachtner passed away at her home in east Manning on Wednesday at 4 o'clock p.m., apoplexy being the immediate cause thereof. Mrs. Schachtner was seated in her chair when all at once she raised her hands and remarked that she was feeling badly. These words were no sooner spoken than she expired. Dr. McKenna was immediately summoned, but upon his arrival there the physician found that life was extinct. Mrs. Schachtner had always been an active, hardworking woman and had experienced little sickness in her lifetime.

Mary (Bucker) Schachtner was born in Wedenberg, Germany, 65 years ago. In 1866 she came with her parents to America, settling at Cincinnati, Ohio. Two years later she was joined in marriage to John Shachtner. In the year 1879 the couple moved to this state, taking up their home on a farm near Dunlap. Later, they purchased and moved to a farm near Gray village, seven miles south of this city. In 1890 they retired from active life and took up their abode in this city. Besides the husband, the deceased leaves two daughters and a number of step-children.

The funeral was held this morning at ten o'clock. The deceased was a devout Catholic and Father Tierney, of the Manning parish officiated. The remains were interred in the Catholic Cemetery east of town.

Mary Schachtner is buried in the Manning Catholic Cemetery.
